SID Distinguished Contributed Paper Award Winner
ITI Techmedia has created a novel LED backlight technology that will pave the way for thinner, more power-efficient large area displays. Details were revealed in a Paper presented at the Society for Information Display (SID) event in Texas on 4 June. The Paper, entitled ‘Low-cost Large-area LED Backlight’ has received a SID Distinguished Contributed Paper Award. Only ten of these significant awards are delivered each year. The paper was praised for its originality and novelty of the work and for the significance of the results to the industry.
The Paper was jointly written by James Gourlay, CTO of Design LED Products (R&D Provider) and Ian Miller, R&D Programme Manager for the Backlighting Programme.
ITI Techmedia and Design LED Products are currently working on the creation of a new commercial venture to market this technology. The company, which will be located in Scotland, aims to introduce its first product to the market in 2010.
Royal Highland Show - Technial Innovation Award Winner
Technology from the ITI Techmedia Condition-based Monitoring R&D Programme has been awarded a silver medal under the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland Technical Innovation Award scheme. These awards aim to encourage and recognise innovation in the design and manufacture of machines, equipment and appliances which will advance the effective and efficient practice of agriculture, horticulture, equestrian, forestry and estate services. The presentation took place at the Royal Highland Show on Saturday 27th June.
The ITI Techmedia Condition-based Monitoring R&D Programme was launched in 2006 to develop a wireless sensors monitoring system, to detect conditions in cattle such as oestrus and parturition. The condition-based monitoring technology has been targeted at dairy and beef cattle but could be adaptable to other valuable animals. Such a system could be a valuable aid for farm management, reducing costs and directing the resources of herd managers more efficiently.
