Backlighting using Polymer Optics is the focus of ITI Techmedia's 7th R&D programme. This programme will focus on the development of a novel backlight platform for liquid-crystal flat-panel displays to improve viewing quality, reduce weight and improve power efficiency at lower cost.  

In 2007 the Backlighting using Polymer Optics Programme was extended to include development aimed at realising novel LED driver electronics (Electronic Drive Control) which improve overall display performance by efficient or intelligent control of the LED sources in the backlight.

ITI Techmedia seeks engagement from any organisation with a commercial interest in this technology.

The Backlighting using Polymer Optics Programme is due to be completed at the end of 2009 and will see an investment from the ITI of over £3million.
