Condition-based monitoring will be enabled by the creation of a novel sensors and networks technology platform

The 6th R&D programme initiated by ITI Techmedia addresses the application of sensors and networks technology to condition-based monitoring for predictive intervention.

Condition-based monitoring addresses the maintenance of valuable assets, which may be remotely based or sufficiently large in number to pose challenges in their management and care. The application of sensors, networks and communications systems is designed to achieve greater efficiency in monitoring. The programme's initial focus is on the monitoring of cattle, where low cost remote mobile sensor platforms can be applied to enable herdsmen and farm managers to continuously monitor and assess animals for a variety of conditions.

The technology being developed in the programme also has applications in a number of industrial and energy sectors.

The Condition-based Monitoring Programme will be concluded at the end of 2009 and involves an investment by the ITI of over £4.75m.
