Ultra-wideband wireless communications technology has the potential to replace many of the cables currently in your home

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a high bandwidth/high speed radio technology, designed for short range (<10m) wireless personal area networks. Its key advantage as a communications technology is that allows the transfer of large amounts of data over short distances and is resistant to interference from other communication signals.  It will enable the rapid downloading and transfer of the high volumes of data which are associated with video and  audio.

UWB has the potential to free a host of devices – including DVD players, audio speakers, high definition television sets, PCs and printers - from the need for wired connections, making it a desirable platform for a range of consumer applications in leisure, lifestyle and entertainment.

ITI Techmedia is investing £6.7m to develop the components, system and network management elements for ultra-wideband wireless technology in consumer markets. Launched in May 2005, the development phase of the programme is now well underway and we would be delighted to hear from any organisation with a commercial interest in exploiting technology in this field.

In June 2009 ITI Techmedia signed a licence deal with TES Electronic Solutions Ltd. to exploit technology developed in the Ultra-wideband R&D Programme. Further opportunities to licence Ultra-wideband technology are available. To discuss the exciting potential of this technology in more detail and to learn more about becoming a Commercial Partner to this Programme please contact Noreen O'Donnell, Commercialisation Manager on +44(0)141 240 1197 or email noreen.odonnell@ititechmedia.com
